News and People You Should Know

If good people go to heaven, then how good is good enough?
What must a person do to be forgiven of their sins and inherit eternal life?
Is the Bible a reliable document?

What must a person do to be forgiven of their sins and inherit eternal life?

God has made a way for you to be forgiven of your sins, in order that you might be reconciled to God and be worthy of  eternal life in heaven.

That way is found exclusively through the person of Jesus Christ. The Bible explains this truth by saying:

"the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 6:23)

This simply means that because of our sin every human being deserves "death" or eternal separation from God, however God has made a way, through Jesus, to avoid this terrible judgment.

The Bible says, "To all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God" (John 1:12).

The Bible also says, "if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you shall be saved" (Romans 10:9).

It is your choice whether or not you will receive the gift of eternal life that God offers you through Jesus: "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life"(John 3:16).

Pray, asking Jesus to forgive you of your sins. Tell him that you believe he died on a cross because of your sins, and that you also believe he proved his power to forgive sins by rising from the grave. Tell him that you gladly receive the wonderful gift of salvation that he offers you, and tell him that you are committing to live the rest of your life in a way which would glorify and magnify him.

If you prayed to God just now, the Bible says God is faithful to forgive you and grant you eternal life, not because you deserve it, but because God loves to lavish his grace upon us and because He always keeps His word. The Bible says, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do" (Ephesians 2:8-10).

Now it is your responsibility to worship and serve God freely because of the incredible gift He has given you.  You need to find a church home where you can worship and serve Jesus. Become of member of a local congregation through believer's baptism, and serve God with all your heart through the ministries of that local church.
